THERAPISTS IN RECOVERY (TIR)
Peer support group for licensed mental health clinicians with alcohol/drug problems
Welcome to Therapists In Recovery (TIR)! Therapists In Recovery is a fellowship of licensed mental health clinicians with alcohol/drug problems who meet on a regular basis to share on matters relating to our recovery and our profession. Founded in 1986, TIR is confidential and supported solely by the voluntary contributions of its members. TIR is independent of any agency or professional organization. Our primary purpose is to stay alcohol/drug-free and to help our colleagues recover from alcohol/drug problems.
TIR is not a therapy group, a supervision group, a wellness committee, a diversion program, or a professional treatment group. We are not allied with any other groups and are under no scrutiny or monitoring by any professional associations, licensing boards, or ethics committees. We offer our personal recovery experience to colleagues requesting our assistance. Our sincere desire is that any licensed mental health clinician seeking help for an alcohol/drug problem will feel free to contact us.
Confidentiality is essential to the success of our fellowship. Some of us are open about our recovery in personal and professional circles, and others are not. We believe this decision is best left to individual members. We maintain no records, nor is formal attendance ever taken at our meetings.
For the purposes of TIR membership, the following are considered licensed mental health clinicians: psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, licensed marriage and family therapists, licensed professional clinical counselors, licensed educational psychologists, and their out-of-state (non-California) equivalents. Retirees are also welcome to attend TIR meetings.
Those who are Psychological Assistants, Associate Clinical Social Workers (ASW), Marriage and Family Therapy Interns (IMF), Professional Clinical Counselor Interns (PCCI), and unlicensed School Psychologists are encouraged to contact TIR after attaining licensure.
